Product Carbon Footprint.SKU by SKU. Defensible.
Customers are asking for PCFs. CBAM verifiers are checking them. Pricing increasingly bakes them in. Noa calculates ISO 14067-compliant PCFs across your SKU portfolio, traces every emission factor and activity input, and serves the same number into customer responses, CBAM submissions, and sustainability disclosures.
What it is
A Product Carbon Footprint quantifies the greenhouse gas emissions associated with a specific product across some or all of its life cycle. Cradle-to-gate covers from raw material extraction to the factory gate. Cradle-to-grave extends through use phase and end-of-life. The ISO 14067 standard governs methodology. The GHG Protocol Product Standard is the most widely adopted alternative. The EU Product Environmental Footprint (PEF) is converging on similar principles. CBAM uses embedded emission calculations that draw heavily on PCF methodology.
Who runs this
Anyone selling into the EU with CBAM-covered goods needs PCFs. Anyone selling to large customers with Scope 3 procurement requirements needs PCFs. Anyone in the automotive, electronics, chemicals, or consumer goods supply chain is being asked for PCFs by their downstream customers. The asks are not optional anymore. They are baked into purchase orders and supplier contracts.
What's covered
Every requirement Noa covers out of the box. Custom requirements added on Enterprise.
How Noa runs it
The end-to-end workflow Noa runs. Each step backed by evidence. Reviewable, auditable, defensible.
Bill of materials in, PCF out.
Connect your ERP for BOMs, recipes, and routings. Noa applies emission factors per material, energy use per process, and waste factors per batch. PCFs calculate without manual spreadsheet model-building.
Supplier-specific emission factors, when available.
Generic emission factors are the floor. Supplier-specific PCFs from upstream partners are the ceiling. Noa stores both and uses the more specific value where available. Cascade improvement over time.
Allocation rules declared, not buried.
Multi-product facilities require allocation. Mass, economic, physical, or system-expansion. Noa's allocation rules are declared explicitly per facility and per product line. Auditors see the logic.
Activity data evidence at source.
Every kilowatt of electricity, every cubic metre of natural gas, every kilogram of input material traces back to the meter reading or invoice. PCFs survive customer scrutiny because the math is auditable.
CBAM embedded emissions, the same engine.
CBAM's embedded emission methodology overlaps materially with PCF cradle-to-gate. Noa calculates CBAM submissions from the same SKU-level PCFs you already have. No parallel methodology.
Customer data responses in the format they ask for.
Sustainalytics, EcoVadis, CDP supply chain, DJSI, custom procurement questionnaires. Once you have PCFs in Noa, the responses generate automatically. No analyst writing them out one at a time.
Questions teams ask
Common questions from compliance and sustainability leads scoping Noa for this workstream.
Do we need PCFs for every SKU?
Not at once. Start with the highest-volume or highest-emission SKUs. Most chemical and manufacturing operators have a long tail where 80% of emissions come from 20% of SKUs. Get the 20% done with process-based PCFs. The long tail can run on spend-based or material-class proxies until the data improves.
How accurate are PCFs really?
A PCF is a model. Accuracy depends on the activity data and emission factor quality. Noa surfaces the uncertainty per input and rolls it up to a per-product confidence band. Customers, verifiers, and auditors get the band, not just the point estimate.
How does this connect to our overall GHG inventory?
PCFs and corporate GHG inventories use the same underlying activity data. Energy consumption, fuel use, process emissions. Noa's Intelligence Graph captures it once. PCFs and the corporate Scope 1/2/3 disclosure draw from the same source. No double counting, no separate data pulls.
Can we expose PCFs to customers automatically?
Yes. Noa generates customer-facing PCF summaries in PDF or API form, with the methodology disclosure and data confidence band. Customer portals (EcoVadis, Sustainalytics, CDP) can pull directly. Sales engineering does not become a PCF helpdesk.
