JSE tightens TCFD-aligned climate disclosure for FY27

The Johannesburg Stock Exchange tightened its climate disclosure expectations for FY27, citing TCFD alignment. The new guidance asks listed issuers for scenario analysis and transition plans on top of the existing four-pillar disclosure.

TCFD disbanded, monitoring transferred to IFRS Foundation

The Financial Stability Board formally disbanded the TCFD and transferred ongoing monitoring of climate disclosure to the IFRS Foundation. The TCFD recommendations remain referenced inside IFRS S2 and most national climate rules.

TCFD 2023 Status Report shows 58% adoption among large companies

The TCFD published its final annual Status Report. 58% of large companies surveyed disclosed against eleven or more of the eleven recommended disclosures, up from 18% in 2019. Risk management and metrics remained the weakest areas.

TCFD recommendations updated with new metrics annex

The TCFD published an update to its 2017 recommendations, adding a new annex on cross-industry climate-related metrics and refining guidance on scenario analysis and transition plans. The update was widely adopted as the basis for subsequent rulemaking.

TCFD publishes four-pillar recommendations

The Task Force on Climate-related Financial Disclosures, chaired by Michael Bloomberg, published its four-pillar framework: Governance, Strategy, Risk Management, and Metrics and Targets. The framework became the de facto standard for climate disclosure for the next six years.

TCFD established by the Financial Stability Board

The Financial Stability Board established the TCFD at the request of the G20 Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors. The task force was asked to develop voluntary, consistent climate-related financial disclosures that would help inform investors' decisions.
